Welcome to IEDS

The Institute for Environment and Development Sustainability (IEDS), is a specialized Environment and Climate Change Institute based in Bunju B, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, aiming at providing professional training in the fields of environment and climate change for sustainable development. It also undertakes research and provides technical and policy advice in the area of climate change and environment. Upon registration by the National Council for Technical Education, IEDS transitioned from the former Environmental Protection and Management Services which was working with various national and global partners in providing short course training, research, advice and policy studies in the area of climate change and environment. Now IEDS offers short and long term courses at the level of certificate and diploma for Tanzanian and foreign students studying environment and climate change. As a private not-for-profit making training institute it is also accredited to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat, Bonn Germany (www.unfcc.int) as one of non governmental observer organisations. It still offers short courses in these and related fields, undertakes research and provides technical and policy advice in collaboration with various partners across the world. IEDS welcomes donations and volunteers interested in fields of environment and climate change.

The aim of IEDS is to produce trained technicians who can work flexibly in different climate change and environmental management activities, through competence-based curriculum in Environmental Science and Management. In collaboration with governments, foundations, partners, volunteers and sponsors, IEDS has also constant programs of study and training for students, educators, researchers and professionals from all sectors in Tanzania, across Africa and beyond which equip them modern knowledge in the area of environment and climate change
